ummm...yeah...go to Santa Ana. Yeah I know, I'm slacking. Sorry, it's summer.
Last Saturday was the annual Tour Des Artistes in downtown Long Beach. Many props go out to Chloe Flores for putting together a great little fine art event. She had to do a lot of work. Nice job. Here's some photos of the event before I had to leave:
Furmanski's riff on McCracken. I was told McCracken surfed...nice.
Waiting for the beer to show up in front of enView.
Artist Robert Fontenot with Getty Research curator Glenn Phillips.
This Saturday from 12pm to 10pm is the annual Tour Des Artistes in the East Village Arts District of Long Beach. TDA will be a day long extravaganza with tons of art, music, film screenings, spoken word and food. Tickets are $5 bucks and fun will be had by all. Hope to see you there.
While there be sure to check out the Brooklyn>Long beach show at enView.
This is too great not to report now. On july 1st Grand Central Art Center will be opening Blight at The End of The Funnel works by Ed Colver. This exhibition will feature 20 selected photographs and 15 assemblage works in the main gallery by the long time photographer of the So. Cal punk music scene. The old punk rocker in me is very much looking forward to this show because of the old photographs from back in the day but also because old SF legends Flipper will be playing the opening in the courtyard. How great is that!?!? This is going to be a party. See you there.

Local instigators Finishing School just recently participated in the show Urban Networks at Art Interactive in Boston. For some pictures of opening night festivities head over HERE.
Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I've been sliding into the summer schedule. So what does that mean?? Well here's my list of what I'm going to do (or hope to do) this summer vacation:
1. Surf more.
2. On July 14th I play my first ever World Series of Poker event in Vegas. Yes I'm going for a bracelet. If I do well in that event I might even take a shot at the main event.
3. Still trying to talk Mrs. OC Art Blog into going to Santa Fe to see the Site Santa Fe Biennial. I've never been to New Mexico.
4. Currently training to do the Long Beach 1/2 Marathon. Just ran 6 miles on Sunday and lived to tell the tale....barely.
5. And let's not forget that London based artist Natasha Caruana opens her show Facing East at The Office on July 8th. It's the must see show of the summer if I do say so myself.
6. Oh, and I turn 40 in August. Life as I know it is over....or is 40 really the new 30??
What are you doing this summer??
The OC Weekly has a great article about longtime Wedge legend Ron Romanosky's Saturday night slide show at J. Moore Gallery in Seal Beach. Jeff at J. Moore does all my framing and is one cool dude. I'm not the only one who uses him, you always see interesting work when you go in to drop off or pick up. Highly recommended. Ron's opening will run from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Check it out.
This Saturday night Pervasion: The Art of Gary Baseman and Tim Biskup opens at the Laguna Art Museum.
Compartriots for several years, and this being their first museum exhibition of showing together exclusively, Pervasion explores how both artists are at the forefront of blurring the lines between fine art, toy culture and other forms of media. Each has created unique characters that originate within densely packed imagery found in their paintings and sculptures, such as Baseman’s Toby, or Biskup’s Helper. These characters then become motifs that appear on clothing, in books, as toys, and even on animated cartoons.
I think the opening will run from 6 to 9pm but call the museum for more details. Should be packed.
